Where to File a Small Claims Case in Tucson 

If you’re in Tucson and want to file a small claims case, you will file your case in the correct Pima County Justice Court precinct. There is no single place to file, and the right precinct depends on where the defendant lives, does business, or where the dispute occurred. Often, it depends where the best place is to file.

How Small Claims Filing Works in Tucson

Small claims cases are under the jurisdiction of the Justice Courts. In Pima Count, this means you need to file your claim in the correct Justice Court precinct.

You generally file in the precinct where:

  • The defendant lives,
  • The defendant’s business is located, or
  • The incident giving rise to the claim occurred

If you file in the wrong precinct, your case could be dismissed or delayed. Knowing the right spot is very important and will save you a lot of frustration.

Below are the primary Justice Courts that handle small claims cases in the Tucson area. All courts share the same general mailing address but operate as separate precincts.

Pima County Consolidated Justice Court (Downtown Tucson)

If your precinct is any of these locations, you will file at the Stone Avenue location.

Green Valley Justice Court (Precinct 9)

This court serves southern Pima County, including Sahuarita, Green Valley, and surrounding communities. If your dispute involves a business or individual in these areas, this may be your filing location.

Ajo Justice Court (Precinct 10)

This precinct covers the far western portion of Pima County. If your case involves parties or events in Ajo, Why, or nearby areas, you will file here.

Oro Valley Magistrate Court (Not a Justice Court)

Although not part of the Justice Court system, some disputes involving the Town of Oro Valley may fall under this court’s jurisdiction. Always confirm with your legal paraprofessional before filing.
